Former criminal Talgat Kyly continues to impersonate Police Chief Pshembay in the small town of Bes Konyr. He has grown into the role, finding a sense of belonging, a family, a job, and the respect of the local community. Just when it seems that his life has finally settled, Talgat learns about the death of the real Pshembay.

An investigator from Astana, Aziza Bekzat-tegi, takes on the case. Talgat tries to mislead the investigation and send it down a false trail so that it never leads back to him—but will he be able to keep his past hidden?
